Irish folk singer, songwriter and Guitarist

Christy Moore is an accomplished Irish folk singer, songwriter and guitarist. I discovered Christy Moore during my time in the UK and had since purchased a couple of his CDs. A Twitter / Facebook buddy reminded me this week I had the CDs. I’d not listened to them for a bit, so I pulled them out and have now been enjoying them whilst I work! The ‘Night Visit’ is one of my favourites.

Mystical Music with Celtic and Moorish Influences

Loreena McKennitt is from Canada and most well-known for her music with Celtic and Moorish themes. Loreena incorporates visiting such travel destinations which inspire her music. Places such as Ireland, Spain and Morocco.

Loreena was introduced to me when I heard “Huron ‘Beltane’ Fire Dance” playing early one morning on the ABC radio in the very early 1990s. I was awakening from a deep sleep and the celtic sounds shook me to attention! I have since seen Loreena in concert and had her sign a couple of my CDs. The concert was magical. Candles lit the stage and the talent of this woman, left me in awe. She sang, she played the harp, the accordion and various other instruments and it totally drew you in. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I do.

The Sweet Sounds from Ayub Ogada

Ayub Ogada is a musician from Kenya, Africa and plays the nyatiti (a lyre-like stringed instrument), he went to the U.K. and played on the streets for money. A short time later, he was asked to play at Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD festival.

I was introduced to his sweet, gentle sounds whilst watching Charley Boorman and Ewen McGregor’s series ‘Long Way Down’ which covered their fun-filled adventure from northern Africa to South Africa. This song was used a couple of times during the series and it was hauntingly beautiful.
