Travel Photo of the Week: Johnston Ice Canyon

Johnston Ice Canyon is located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. My English friend Lavinia was fortunate enough to have her first trip to Canada recently and shared with me a couple of fabulous shots she took of the area. I particularly liked the photo below, with the angle of the canyon displaying icicles hanging in place of water-falling and in the background, the pines towering upwards.

Mystical Music with Celtic and Moorish Influences

Loreena McKennitt is from Canada and most well-known for her music with Celtic and Moorish themes. Loreena incorporates visiting such travel destinations which inspire her music. Places such as Ireland, Spain and Morocco.

Loreena was introduced to me when I heard “Huron ‘Beltane’ Fire Dance” playing early one morning on the ABC radio in the very early 1990s. I was awakening from a deep sleep and the celtic sounds shook me to attention! I have since seen Loreena in concert and had her sign a couple of my CDs. The concert was magical. Candles lit the stage and the talent of this woman, left me in awe. She sang, she played the harp, the accordion and various other instruments and it totally drew you in. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I do.

    Chateau Frontenac

Situated in the south-eastern Province of Quebec in Canada, Quebec City is the capital and its history dates back to the first permanent settlement in 1608, making it one of the oldest European settlements in the North Americas.

It is also the only fortified city north of Mexico. Quebec has a fabulous collection of 18th and 19th century architecture and ancient sites. Its ancestral walls are home to a beauty all of its own, this making it worthy for inscription during 1985 as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Old Quebec overlooks the meeting of the St Charles River and the larger St Lawrence River. Some of the heritage buildings to see include the Parliament Buildings, City Hall, Citadelle de Quebec, Le Manege Militaire, Chateau Frontenac and Notre-Dame de Quebec basilica-cathedral.
