The Betta Pinguis is quite distinct in its appearance compared to a lot of other Betta fish.
It inhabits the waters of Borneo and thrives mainly in waters close by to the basin of Middle Kapuas, and the Kalimantan Barat basin.
Its also be discovered living in the Kapuas basin, Kandung Suli and Sungai Letang near Kampung.
The Betta Pinguis is much easier to spot because of their length which can be anywhere up to 7 centimeters in length.
The Betta Pinguis is in the same class as the family of Waseri, and the family of the Gouramies.
The Betta Pinguishas has a much deeper body, and also has a much shorter headlength than say the Betta Chini or the Betta Balunga.
The Betta Pinguis really does differ greatly from all other species of Betta fish.
The Betta Pinguis also has a very pronounced "pigmented opercle pattern" and usually a very dark pigmented "opercle distal edge" and is very spotted along its body.
