Discovered way back in the year of 1933.
The Betta Ocellata thrives in the forest regions of Malaysia and adjacent Indonesia.
Betta Ocellata usually prefers deeper water, and lives around the headwaters of rivers.
Betta Ocellata much prefers more slower flowing currents.
On a Betta Ocellata you'll notice that wher the caudal fin starts from, they will all have a bright spot usually on the underside side of their belly.
Betta Ocellata have also been found near Bettotan, Sandakan, and the British North Borneo.
The Betta Ocellata is part of the Anabantids, or labyrinth fishes.
It is called by this name because the Betta Ocellata has a unique organ called a "labyrinth."
It's like a small spot of tissue that gets very wrinkled in appearance, and is located near the very top of the Betta Ocellata's head just behind its beautiful eyes.
The Betta Ocellata labyrinth organ is very unique to other Bettas because it allows the Betta Ocellata to survive in watera which are low in oxygen levels.
Betta Ocellata can actually breath air through their body tissue.
